Lightening the feel of his dramatic MA Graduate collection, Derek Lawlor's debut Spring Summer 2010 collection has the same graphic appeal combined with second skin flexibility.
On September 18th at Blackall Studios in Shoreditch Derek Lawlor showed his independent collection since graduating from MA Fashion at Central St Martins in February this year.
The wax cord embellished dresses that had first gained him attention were still present but this time with some more wearable separates included making his collection more versatile. The monochrome colour palette remained and the bespoke outfits were sent down the runway perfectly with Manolo Blahnik shoes.
Specialising in knitwear not only allows Derek to construct beautiful figure hugging creations, but as a designer allows him to push boundaries by developing new techniques within the world of knitwear.
For S/S 20010 Lawlor, together with his signature spiral discs patterns, introduced wax cord knots and embedded cord within skirts which from a distance look like prints but only when closer you can recognise the woven cord technique and true craftsmanship within each separate creation.
